The 1-2-3 of spiritual channeling
You know, when I started my path of spiritual awakening and empowerment several years ago, one of the first really cool things that I came across was channeled information. Of course, when I started I didn’t know a channeled book from a rock on the ground, so when I went to my local new age bookstore, I started off by looking at “normal” spiritual books. Unfortunately, as I perused through the “normal” books I found, I realized that they didn’t seem to have any of the answers I was looking for. Too often I found, the ”normal” books were merely rehashes and reinterpretations of shit that I had learned as a child. It was a little discouraging but , not one to be discouraged, I followed my big Slavic schnoz and it eventually led me to the “channeled” section of the new age book store. Seeing the words “channeled materials” on the book store shelf I asked myself, “what the heck does ‘channeled’ mean?” I was curious and it looked interesting, so rather than ask the staff at the book store what it was about, and risk making either them or myself look foolish, I bought a Kryon book and went home to read.
Well BAM but wasn’t that a cool read. My first kyron book and I was hooked. Based on my limited spiritual experience and knowledge back then, the channelers seemed to be the only ones who really understood a thing. Unlike the psychological and spiritual cliches I was getting in the “normal” books (not to mention the total lack of sociological sophistication in the “normal” books), these folks really seemed to have it. I was excited and I devoured about a half a dozen Kryon books before, sadly, the thrill started to wear off. I don’t think it was any single reading or event, I just gradually became disillusioned with the materials.
Why the disillusionment?
Well, partly it was as a result of the realization that despite their, on average, greater spiritual sophistication, nevertheless, they were still getting some important things wrong. Partly it was because I gradually came to realize that channeling was no big deal. Heck, if a spiritual newbie dunce like me could do it way back then (and I could), surely it was no special talent. And besides, as I gradually came to understand as I examined the whole idea, all channeling represented really was a kind of baby’s first step. That is, the ability to channel was an indication of early spiritual progress, but it wasn’t some mystical and magical art that only the high priests could accomplish, which of course wasn’t a problem unless you came to the erroneous conclusion that opening an intermittent channel was the be all and end all of spiritual progress. If you did that, you might be tempted to accept all sorts of potentially corrupted channeled information without question, or worse. If you happened to be channeling yourself, you might end up inadvertently spitting out all sorts of superficially true, but deeply flawed spiritual information which could end up leading hundreds, thousands, maybe millions down a spiritually useless dead end path. Either way, no good. So what do you do?
Well, I’m not going to go into that detail here. If you are interested, I have a series of articles, (basically a late draft of volume one of my Book of Magic - Psychology and Psychopathology of Channeling) that provides some general guidance on how to approach channeled materials (i.e., cautiously and with your eyes wide open), teaches you how to prepare and safely open your own channel, and gives you the conceptual and technical groundwork that will allow you to eventually move beyond intermittent conscious or trance channeling into a more full time participation with the Fabric of Consciousness. I warn you, it is a first draft, and there is a bit more information to come before the book is published early 2009, but if you are a producer or consumer of channeled information, I dare say, it’s a read that would be well worth your while.
