The Tragedy of Burma

Published by ms

Listen to mp3

Ok so today I wanted to talk about Myanamar.

Now I gotta say, you got to feel bad for the poor people of myanamar right?

I mean, not only did their religious leaders recently try and do something about the repressive military Junta that rules over the land, only to find themselves beaten into the ground by a bunch of armed thugs,

But now the poor people there have the misfortune of being at the center of deadly cyclone that could, if this world doesn’t get its proverbial shit together right now, cost millions of lives.

The problem?

The military government there, a handful of men in a country of 47 millions, aren’t doing anything to help the suffering millions

They can’t do it themselves, of course.

They do not have the resources to aid the millions of people who need help.

They are overwhelmed by the task.

But that doesn’t mean help isn’t available.

According to the UN, offers of help have poured in from all over the world.

But the ruling government won’t let the help in.

They are simply refusing to let aid in and people are suffering as a result.

It’s crazy and you have to ask, why.

Why the heck would anybody do that?

Well, unfortunately, there’s no one reason for that.

It’s a lot of different reasons really.

Some of its ideological, they believe that they deserve to have power or something like that.

Some of it’s economic. They like there cushy royal lifestyles and don’t want to give that up.

But mostly, I think, it’s fear.

The only reason a group of men would stand around while millions of their own country men are threatened with starvation and death is because are they afraid.

And why are they afraid?

Well that’s easy.

It’s not rocket science.

They are a military junta.

They are a dictatorship.

And since there is no such thing as a benign dictatorship, they have probably done all sorts of bad things to the people of Burma that they probably don’t want other people to know about.

Who knows what it might be, and I’m certainly not going to speculate.

But we do know they beat down a group of monks just a little while ago, which I suppose would be tantamount in our country to the police going into a seminary and beating a bunch of innocent priests into a bloody pulp, while the people stood around too afraid to do anything to help,

Thankfully, we are not so oppressed as that, but you can see my point hopefully.

We know the people in that country are scared so we know the Junta is probably not above the use of brutal force.

And frankly, that’s probably why they are scared.

They don’t want to let all the foreign aid workers in to talk to the people in Burma.

They don’t want aid workers to find out the sorts of things that they’ve been doing in the country.

And perhaps they got a point.

Perhaps they should be afraid.

I mean, there have been cases when the ruling classes, in particular the very brutal and callous ones, have faced public execution for their crimes.

It doesn’t happen often, but it does happen. We only have to imagine the French revolution and the guillotine chopping off the necks of the callous royalty who danced while the people starved to see that there fear might be justified.

And I have to ask, who wants that?

Nobody.

So, can you blame them really?

Wouldn’t you, in the same position, be scared out of your wits as well?

Not want to move.

Not know what to do.

I know I would.

I have a family that I love and I don’t want to ever be separated from them.

No matter what I’ve done in the past, I don’t want to lose them and I’m sure it’s the same for the military Junta in Burma as well

They are human beings and no human being wants to face prison, exile, or death.

So what you do?

Well I know what I’d do.

If I had the chance to get a message through to the military juntu, or rather the “higher self” of the military juntu, I would close my eyes,

Concentrate,

And I’d say

“WE FORGIVE YOU.”

“You don’t need to struggle anymore.”

“It’s ok to release power.”

“It’s ok to let go of control.”

“We won’t let anything bad happen to you.”

“WE FORGIVE YOU.”

That’s what I’d do.

I’d put these words into my consciousness and beam them out there and I’d be sincere about it.

Knowing why the rulers of Myanamar are holding on, and realizing the safety and well being of millions is more important that punishing a handful of misguided physical units, I would forgive them and I would envision them gently letting go of their power.

I would not wish them any harm.

I would not wish their families any harm.

I would no cast judgment on them.

I would not condemn them.

I would forgive them and say, let go.

Let the aid through.

Let go.
